Simulink Fundamentals, Image Processing, Machine learning, MATLAB Support package and Systems Identifications Apps.

In this session the participants able to obtain knowledge in accessing and learning from the MATLAB portal.

Topic 1: MATLAB and Simulink Fundamentals

This topic deals with the very basic of MATLAB and Simulink. Participants will be introduced to the interface and features in MATLAB and Simulink. Basic functions and examples will be presented, followed by interesting features to get them to start using MATLAB. MATLAB and Simulink Onramps will be introduced as well for self-learning.

Topic 2: Image processing with MATLAB

This topic deals with mainly utilizing the Image Processing and Computer Vision toolboxes in MATLAB. It covers the workflow of image processing, analysis and visualization, the functions utilization, and a few examples in object detection and image segmentation.

Topic 3: Machine Learning with MATLAB

What’s a data processing without deploying it to good use? Machine learning can help with that, by developing predictive model to ease the automation task. Machine learning is a data analytics technique that teaches computers to do what comes naturally to humans and animals: learn from experience. Machine learning algorithms use computational methods to “learn” information directly from data without relying on a predetermined equation as a model. The algorithms adaptively improve their performance as the number of samples available for learning increases.

Topic 4: MATLAB support package for Raspberry Pi or Arduino

This topic introduces the support packages for Raspberry Pi and Arduino. MATLAB® Support Package for Arduino® Hardware enables you to use MATLAB to communicate with an Arduino board. You can read and write sensor data through the Arduino and immediately see the results in MATLAB without having to compile. MATLAB® Support Package for Raspberry Pi™ Hardware enables you to communicate with a Raspberry Pi remotely from a computer running MATLAB or through a web browser with MATLAB Online™. You can acquire data from sensors and imaging devices connected to the Raspberry Pi and process them in MATLAB.

Topic 5: System Identification App for mathematical models of dynamic systems construction

This topic introduces the System Identification App from the System Identification Toolbox for the use in mathematical modelling of dynamic systems construction. System Identification Toolbox™ provides MATLAB® functions, Simulink® blocks, and an app for constructing mathematical models of dynamic systems from measured input-output data. It lets you create and use models of dynamic systems not easily modeled from first principles or specifications. You can use time-domain and frequency-domain input-output data to identify continuous-time and discrete-time transfer functions, process models, and state-space models.

Application Engineer, TechSource Systems

Hanim is a new addition to the Application Engineering team in TechSource Systems, the sole distributor of MATLAB and Simulink in South East Asia. Previously, she graduated from University of Nottingham with an M.Eng. in Electronic and Communications Engineering and has recently passed her Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.


Having been done research projects involving programming works, Hanim has written source codes using MATLAB and utilized its toolboxes for more than 7 years, including her novel and robust evolutionary algorithm, which is an optimization technique of artificial intelligence (AI).
